THE UNDREGROUND ARTISTS DON’T LIKE THE HELP WE OFFER THEM
Celestine Donkor who is a household name and celebrated gospel artist in Ghana and beyond made this remark on one her visits to a radio station.
She recently went to Onua 95.1 fm, a radio station based in the capital, Accra, Ghana for an interview.
As the conversation progresses, the Agbebolo hit maker was asked if the seniors in the game are doing enough to help the up and coming ones. She retorted, they have always offered help but the rest depends on them.
“I have always featured underground artist that people don’t know of. Lets talk about the likes of Ashley and Gideon.
I recently did an auditioning just to discover more of Gideon kind of talents.
I have a mass choir(CELESTIAL MASS CHOIR) which I pay vocal coach so that he can train them so that they can be there. I think that is part of the mentoring stage. It is going on.”
She went on to reveal her challenge she has with a lot of the current crop of talents with not committing to process and waiting for their turn.
‘‘I have a problem with the young and up and coming talents. You see, the way we were patient and ready to go through process and to commit ourselves. It is not so with our young talents”.
The final say challenge crooner didn’t shy to give some young acts their flowers
“At that time I was backing Philipa (Philipa Baafi) and doing Rev Prince Nyarko songs, I had a single and in fact I had songs out but I was still backing them and I see the likes of Luigi Maclean doing same, kofi Owusu Peprah doing that, efe grace doing that.
Celestine Donkor who has a big record with Nigerian superstar, Steve Crown, further stated that
“The underground artist you're mentioning, trust me, they don’t need the help we are offering them or talking about.
Trust me, they don’t and I am talking from experience and sixteen years in this ministry and I have done a lot of work. They don’t going through like the process. They want to become everything overnight”.
The celebrated icon ended her take on the question with this
“When you let them in your space, they think they are at your level. They are impatient to learn. They are impatient to go through the process.
Some of them, we got so close and we reached a certain level that we were taking plans for the next level and everything fell out”.
The works of Celestine Donkor speaks for itself. She boasts of hits like only you, Testimony, Praise Him, Final say medley, No One, Adom ne Ahunumobro, Thank You, Supernatural, Mmere pa and many more.
What do you also think?
Should the seniors do more or the young talents are just impatient?
