Gospel Artiste of the Year” at the 24th Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, Piesie Esther has recounted some sad experiences in her journey to stardom.
In a recent interview with Nayas on “Experiences in life” Piesie revealed she was born into a very poor family.
According to the “way3 me yie” hitmaker life became very difficult for her and her four siblings, her parents were farmers and sometimes her dad would leave home in search of greener pastures leaving her mother to take care of the whole family.
We never got fresh clothes and it was difficult for us to get things we wanted. We were so poor, I won’t lie about it, and it was very disgraceful…We went through a lot in life,” she narrated.
Piesie Esther revealed that hope came into her life, after a friend of her mother’s invited her to Kumasi.
My mother wanted to go to Kumasi but she knew no one there… so when this invitation came in, I was delighted. When we went there, my mother’s friend was living in a single room so we had to manage somewhere else and it was hell.
“Imagine a married woman, leaving her home to become a servant for someone. But we loved it, life was hard but it was better than being in the village.”
She continued; “We couldn’t afford food, we survived on chop bar leftovers. When they eat the fufu, then my mom will take the leftovers and make sure we eat in the evening.”
She explained that all that she went through motivated her to become the music star she is today and she never struggles to pen down lyrics for most of her songs, citing “Mpare me” as one of the songs she wrote which was inspired by her mother’s struggles in life.
