Ugandan Christian organization Phaneroo Ministries, led by Grace Lubega Matovu, celebrated its 9th anniversary in a remarkable way - by shattering the Guinness World Record for the longest applause. On this momentous occasion, 926 enthusiastic members gathered at the UMA Multipurpose Hall in Kampala, Uganda, to participate in the "Clap for Jesus" event.
With their signature high-spirited energy, the congregation clapped for an impressive 3 hours and 16 minutes, maintaining an average sound level of 88.5 decibels. This feat surpassed the previous record of 2 hours and 5 minutes, set in 2019 by Clark Stevens and The Festival of Awesomeness (UK).
The record attempt was no easy feat, as participants were required to clap continuously without breaks or interruptions. Stewards ensured that anyone who stopped clapping was removed from the group, while others assisted with water breaks, allowing participants to sip from a bottle while continuing to clap.
The event was live-streamed, and many people across Uganda joined in, clapping along in solidarity. Grace Lubega, leader of Phaneroo Ministries, shared the motivation behind this record attempt: "In a time of struggle and hardship, I wanted to bring people together in thanksgiving and celebration. We aimed to send a message of gratitude and hope to the world, with our primary thanks going to our Lord and Saviour Jesus."
This record-breaking applause is a testament to the power of community and gratitude. The original record was set in 1991 by Spanish opera singer Plácido Domingo, with 1 hour and 20 minutes of applause. In 2002, German band Grabowsky broke the record with 1 hour and 30 minutes of applause. Phaneroo Ministries has now taken this record to new heights, inspiring others to embrace the joy of gratitude and celebration.
